So, to pick up where I left off on the last post. After Deb received the pitocin things started happening pretty quickly. The contractions grew in intensity and were much shorter apart (2 to 3 minutes). We tried walking around to help distract from the contractions. Here Deb is getting some inspiration from looking at other recent newborns.
The pain intensified quickly so she ended up getting an epidural around 2:30 in the morning, which helped ease the pain. She was only about 2 cm dilated so the nurses thought we had a few hours before she would be fully dilated. Well about 2 hours later she felt a lot of pressure down below so had a nurse check her again...she was fully dilated. Game time!
After about an hour and fifteen minutes of pushing we had our beautiful baby boy. Aside from him being our first child, it was a day of "firsts" for him too:
First weight measurement - 7 lbs 11oz
Length - 19.5 inches
(Cone)head measurement
First bath (not a happy camper)
First diaper
and first shirt!
So far everything has been great. He's eating like a champ, sleeping well, really only cries when we change his (tar filled) diapers, and makes the cutest faces ever! Mom is doing great as well. We slept pretty well last night, getting a couple of 2-3 hour blocks so are feeling better today.

I know a lot of people have asked about his name and we're getting close so stay tuned! More to come...

ReplyDeleteHi Devin and Deb!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your beautiful baby boy! What a thrill I know it is for you! He looks so mature (not the typical wrinkly newborn) and is that blond hair? Can't wait to see more pics and here the developments.
Love,
Pam
